The ad in question was set to run during an upcoming high-profile game at Lambeau Field, the iconic home of the Green Bay Packers. Tesla, ever a bold and disruptive brand, was looking to capitalize on the massive viewership and cultural crossover between college football fans and potential electric vehicle buyers. The ad campaign, backed personally by Musk, was intended to be a statement piece promoting Tesla’s next-generation Cybertruck, showcasing the vehicle’s power and innovation — values often echoed in the spirit of college football.

 

However, Texas Tech officials were reportedly not on board with the direction of the campaign. According to insiders, the university felt the tone and imagery of the advertisement clashed with the values they uphold as a team and as a representation of West Texas culture.
