Wigan Warriors star undergoes surgery with lengthy absence likely

Wigan Warriors star Abbas Miski has undergone surgery on his knee – ruling him out of action for at least the next two months.

Wigan Warriors have been dealt a significant blow with the news that star winger Abbas Miski will be unavailable for the next two months after undergoing knee surgery. The Lebanese international has been struggling with a persistent knee problem, and the club has now confirmed that he has gone under the knife to address the issue.

Miski, known for his speed, finishing ability, and relentless work rate on the flank, has been managing the injury for some time. Although he had been attempting to play through the discomfort, the condition had reached a point where surgery became unavoidable. As a result, Wigan will be without one of their most consistent backline performers for at least the next eight weeks.

In a statement released by the club, head coach Matt Peet acknowledged the loss but emphasized the importance of Miski’s long-term health and recovery. “Abbas has been a warrior for us in every sense of the word. He’s been playing through pain to contribute to the team, but after consulting with the medical team and specialists, we all agreed that surgery was the best option to ensure he returns fully fit,” Peet said.

The surgery was completed successfully earlier this week, and Miski is already beginning the early stages of his rehabilitation. While the club has not set a definitive return date, they are hopeful he will be back in contention by mid-July, just in time for the crucial run-in toward the end of the Super League season.

Miski’s absence leaves a gap in the Warriors’ wing department, where he has been a mainstay since joining the club in 2022. His performances have not only earned praise from fans and pundits but have also made him one of the top try-scorers in the league over the past two seasons. His physical presence in both attack and defense will certainly be missed during his spell on the sidelines.

In the meantime, Wigan will need to rely on their squad depth to cover for Miski’s absence. Youngsters and fringe players may now have the opportunity to step up, with Peet likely to rotate options on the wing. Players such as Liam Marshall and Jake Wardle may be tasked with carrying more of the attacking load, while others could be shifted into unfamiliar roles to help balance the team.

Despite the setback, there remains optimism that Miski will return in strong form later in the season. The club’s medical staff will monitor his recovery closely, ensuring he takes no unnecessary risks during rehabilitation.
