CLUB NEWS: Derby County Honoured with Silver Family Excellence Status

Derby County has been officially recognised for its dedication to creating a welcoming and enjoyable matchday experience for families, as the club has been awarded the prestigious Silver Family Excellence Status. The recognition, announced this week by the English Football League (EFL), celebrates clubs that go above and beyond in providing a high-quality environment for supporters of all ages — especially young fans and their families.
The Family Excellence scheme, introduced by the EFL to assess the matchday experience across its clubs, evaluates a range of factors such as ticket pricing, stadium facilities, accessibility, and overall customer service. The Silver tier indicates that Derby County is not only meeting the expectations set by the EFL but exceeding them in several key areas.
In a statement from the club, Derby County expressed pride in achieving the Silver standard: “We are delighted to receive Silver Family Excellence Status. This award reflects the ongoing commitment from all departments at the club to ensure that Pride Park is a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive place for families to experience football. Our focus remains on continually improving and listening to the needs of our fans.”
Throughout the 2024–25 season, Derby County has introduced a number of new initiatives aimed at enhancing the family experience. These include expanded family seating zones, upgraded food options tailored for children, and engaging pre-match entertainment, including player meet-and-greets, face painting, and interactive games around the stadium.
The club’s Family Zone, in particular, has received high praise. Located in the East Stand, the area provides a vibrant and friendly space designed specifically for young fans and their guardians. With trained staff and volunteers ensuring a safe and fun environment, it has quickly become a standout feature of Derby’s matchday setup.
EFL assessors commended Derby County not just for the physical infrastructure, but also for the enthusiasm and care shown by staff throughout the matchday experience. From clear signage and helpful stewards to engaging halftime entertainment, the Rams were noted for creating a day out that leaves a lasting impression on young supporters and their families.
Derby County Chief Executive Stephen Pearce spoke about the recognition: “Receiving the Silver Family Excellence Status is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work of our staff and volunteers. We know how important it is to make football a positive, welcoming experience for the next generation of fans. This award shows we’re on the right path, but we’ll continue striving for even higher standards.”
Supporters have also voiced their appreciation. Parents and guardians have frequently highlighted how much easier and more enjoyable it has become to attend matches with children, thanks to improved facilities and thoughtful planning by the club.
