News now: Michigan Wolverines | 2025 4⭐️ Tight End Eli Owens out of Alcoa

The Michigan Wolverines have continued their strong momentum on the recruiting trail by securing a commitment from 2025 four-star tight end Eli Owens, a standout prospect from Alcoa High School in Tennessee.

Owens, widely regarded as one of the top tight ends in his class, made his decision public after narrowing his choices from a list of high-profile programs that included Tennessee, Alabama, and Ohio State. In the end, it was Michigan’s coaching staff, tradition, and offensive vision that sealed the deal.

“I felt at home in Ann Arbor,” Owens said in a statement. “The culture, the way they use tight ends in the offense, and the trust I felt from Coach Harbaugh and Coach Newsome really made the difference for me. It just felt right.”

Ranked as a top-10 tight end nationally and a top-200 overall prospect, Owens brings a dynamic skill set to the table. At 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, he possesses a rare combination of strength, route-running ability, and reliable hands. His versatility allows him to line up in multiple formations, making him a valuable weapon in both the passing and running games.

During his junior season at Alcoa, Owens posted impressive numbers, tallying over 600 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, all while showcasing his physicality as a blocker. His performance not only turned heads among scouts but also helped lead Alcoa to another deep playoff run in Tennessee’s ultra-competitive high school football scene.

Michigan tight ends coach Grant Newsome played a critical role in securing Owens’ commitment. Known for his strong relationships with recruits and his ability to develop talent at the position, Newsome has built a reputation as one of the best young recruiters in college football.

“Coach Newsome has a real vision for how he wants to use tight ends,” Owens explained. “It’s not just about blocking. He wants to get the ball in our hands and let us make plays. That was huge for me.”

Owens becomes the latest addition to what is shaping up to be a promising 2025 recruiting class for the Wolverines, who are looking to build on their recent College Football Playoff success and continue competing at a national level. With several key offensive pieces already in place, Owens’ commitment adds another layer of talent to Michigan’s future attack.

Recruiting analysts have praised Owens’ decision, noting that his skill set is well suited for the Wolverines’ balanced offensive scheme. “He’s one of the most complete tight ends in this class,” said one analyst. “Michigan is getting a player who can contribute early and grow into a major role.”

For Owens, the decision brings a sense of clarity and excitement. “Now that it’s official, I can just focus on my senior year and getting better every day,” he said. “But I can’t wait to get to Ann Arbor and be part of something special.”
