News Confirmed: Patrick McMath is OL commit No. 1 for Texas Tech in 2025

Texas Tech’s 2025 recruiting class is officially underway in the trenches, as Patrick McMath has announced his commitment to the Red Raiders, becoming the first offensive lineman pledge for the cycle.

McMath, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound lineman out of Mansfield, Texas, made his decision public over the weekend, choosing Texas Tech over offers from several other Power Five programs, including Baylor, Kansas State, and Arizona State. His commitment marks a significant early win for head coach Joey McGuire and offensive line coach Stephen Hamby, who have made it clear that building from the line out is a key part of the program’s vision.

“Texas Tech just felt like home,” McMath said in an interview following his announcement. “The coaching staff believes in me, and they showed me how I could be a cornerstone of the future here. They want to build something special, and I want to be part of that.”

The Red Raiders’ interest in McMath ramped up after a strong junior season in which he displayed versatility, toughness, and strong footwork—qualities highly valued in Hamby’s aggressive, up-tempo blocking schemes. Able to play both tackle and guard, McMath brings a blend of physicality and athleticism that gives Tech flexibility as it continues to shape the 2025 class.

“Patrick checks every box you want in an offensive lineman,” Coach Hamby said. “He’s big, strong, smart, and coachable. But more than that, he’s hungry to improve. That’s the kind of player we’re building our future around.”

Texas Tech has placed renewed emphasis on recruiting in-state talent under McGuire, and McMath’s commitment reinforces that strategy. Hailing from the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, one of the most talent-rich areas in the country, McMath’s decision could also help sway other top prospects in the region to give Lubbock a serious look.

With McMath in the fold, Texas Tech has started to shape the foundation of its 2025 offensive recruiting. Though the class is still in its early stages, the coaching staff views the offensive line as a priority area, especially given the team’s long-term vision of competing at the top of the Big 12.

The Red Raiders finished the 2024 recruiting cycle with one of their strongest offensive line classes in recent years, and McMath’s early commitment suggests that momentum is carrying over. Fans and analysts alike view this as a statement that Tech is serious about dominating in the trenches for years to come.

McMath, who plans to enroll early, will spend his senior season refining his skills and preparing for the next level. He also intends to help recruit other top offensive linemen to join him in Lubbock.

“I’m committed, but I’m not done,” McMath said. “Now it’s about building something together.”
