GOOD NEWS: Ben Hunt’s return to Broncos confirmed as Adam Reynolds

In a major boost for Brisbane Broncos fans, the club has officially confirmed the return of veteran playmaker Ben Hunt, reigniting memories of his early days in the maroon and gold. The announcement also signals a major transition at the club, with current captain Adam Reynolds preparing to hand over the reins to Hunt as he nears the end of his illustrious career.

Hunt’s return to Red Hill comes after months of speculation and behind-the-scenes negotiations, with both the player and the club eager for a reunion. Hunt, who made his NRL debut with the Broncos back in 2009, spent nearly a decade with the club before moving to the St. George Illawarra Dragons in 2018. Now, after seven seasons in the Red V, he is set to don the Broncos jersey once again — and this time, as a senior leader and mentor.

“It feels like coming home,” Hunt said in a statement released by the club. “Brisbane is where it all began for me, and I’ve always had a special connection with the team, the fans, and the city. I’m grateful for the opportunity to finish my career where it started and to help lead the next generation of Broncos.”

The move also arrives at a pivotal moment for Brisbane. With Reynolds set to retire at the end of the 2025 season, Hunt’s experience and leadership will be crucial in guiding the club through its next chapter. Head coach Kevin Walters praised the move, highlighting Hunt’s influence on and off the field.

“Ben brings a level of calm and control that’s invaluable in a playmaker,” Walters said. “He knows what it means to wear the Broncos jersey, and with Adam preparing to finish up, Ben will play a key role in mentoring our younger halves and keeping our standards high.”

Reynolds, who captained the side to a Grand Final appearance in 2023 and has been instrumental in the Broncos’ resurgence, has also welcomed Hunt’s return, calling it “a perfect fit at the perfect time.”

“Ben and I have a lot of mutual respect,” Reynolds said. “He’s got the footy brain and the leadership you want in a senior player. I’ll be giving everything I’ve got this season, but knowing the club is in good hands after I step away is a huge relief.”

The Broncos are expected to integrate Hunt into the squad gradually, with a focus on building combinations with emerging talents like Ezra Mam and Reece Walsh. With Hunt’s return now locked in, fans are buzzing with excitement over what’s to come.

Social media erupted following the club’s announcement, with #HuntReturns trending across platforms and supporters flooding comment sections with celebratory messages. The reunion of Hunt with the club that first launched his career has injected fresh energy and optimism into a fanbase that believes another premiership window is within reach.
