Congratulation News: Wigan warriors team Chooses Bevan French as the new captain of the team

In a proud and exciting announcement that has been met with widespread praise, Wigan Warriors have officially appointed Bevan French as the club’s new captain, ushering in a fresh chapter of leadership ahead of the forthcoming season. The decision marks a significant moment for both French and the club, with players, staff, and fans rallying behind the talented fullback as he prepares to lead one of rugby league’s most storied sides.

French, 28, takes over the captaincy from Liam Farrell, who served the role with distinction. While Farrell remains a senior figure in the squad, the club has opted to pass the baton to French, a move that reflects his influence both on and off the field. It’s a remarkable nod of trust from head coach Matt Peet, who described French as a “natural leader” with the respect of the entire dressing room.

“Bevan leads by example,” said Peet. “His performances speak for themselves, but it’s what he brings to the culture of this group that truly stands out. He’s professional, humble, and committed — the lads look up to him, and rightly so.”

Since joining Wigan in 2019, French has dazzled supporters with his electrifying speed, skill, and instinct for the game. He’s become a crowd favourite at the DW Stadium, regularly lighting up Super League fixtures with game-changing moments and a style that’s both fearless and fluid. However, it’s his growth off the pitch that has impressed the coaching staff and earned him the armband.

French himself admitted the honour came as a surprise but one he embraces wholeheartedly. “To be named captain of this great club is something I never expected when I first arrived,” he said. “It’s a massive privilege. I’ve learnt so much from players like Faz (Farrell) and Tommy (Leuluai), and I want to do them proud by leading this team the right way.”

The Australian-born star also spoke of the responsibility that comes with wearing the captain’s armband, especially at a club with such high standards and expectations. “Wigan is built on hard work, resilience, and tradition. I’m here to uphold that and help drive us forward.”

The news has been well-received throughout the Wigan fan base, many of whom see French as the embodiment of the club’s modern identity — talented, fast-paced, and grounded. Social media was flooded with congratulations and excitement, with many supporters eager to see how the team will evolve under French’s leadership.

Veteran teammates were also quick to back the appointment. “He’s earned it,” said Liam Marshall. “He’s got the respect of everyone in the squad. He sets standards every day, and I’ve no doubt he’ll be a brilliant captain.”
