ESPN REPORT: Thibaut Courtois Signs New Two-Year Contract at Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has officially extended his stay at the club by signing a fresh two-year contract, further solidifying his long-term commitment to the Spanish giants. The Belgian international, widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, has put pen to paper on a deal that will now see him remain at the Santiago Bernabéu until the summer of 2029.

Courtois, who joined Real Madrid in 2018 from Chelsea, has since been a cornerstone in the club’s recent domestic and European success. His commanding presence between the posts, shot-stopping prowess, and exceptional reflexes have made him a fan favorite and a trusted figure in the squad. Despite being sidelined for much of the 2024–25 season due to a severe ACL injury, Courtois returned to action in the final months and proved he remains a force to be reckoned with.

The new contract serves as a significant boost for Real Madrid, who are currently in a phase of building a team to compete for multiple trophies in the coming years. The club’s management views Courtois as a central figure in that vision. By securing his services for two more years beyond his previous agreement, the club not only reaffirms its faith in the 33-year-old shot-stopper but also adds stability and experience to a team filled with rising stars.

Club president Florentino Pérez praised Courtois for his loyalty and professionalism, stating, “Thibaut has demonstrated not only world-class ability on the pitch but also incredible resilience and leadership off it. This renewal reflects our belief in his importance to our future.”

Courtois, for his part, expressed his gratitude to the club and its supporters. In an official statement released by Real Madrid, he said: “Real Madrid is my home. It’s an honor to continue wearing this badge for more years. I’ve always given everything for this club, and I will keep doing so. I’m motivated, happy, and excited about what’s ahead.”

The timing of the contract renewal is particularly notable as Real Madrid prepares for the 2025–26 season with high expectations. With Kylian Mbappé set to make his highly anticipated debut and the club aiming to defend their La Liga and Champions League titles, having Courtois back in full form and now contracted long-term is a major plus for manager Carlo Ancelotti.

While young backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin impressed in Courtois’s absence, the Belgian’s return to full fitness and form could see him reclaim his starting spot. That, coupled with his new deal, signals that Real Madrid has no intention of letting go of one of their most valuable assets anytime soon.

In an era where clubs are constantly on the lookout for elite goalkeepers, Real Madrid has acted decisively to secure the future of one of the finest in the game. With his contract now running through 2029, Courtois’s story in Madrid is far from over—it may, in fact, be entering an exciting new chapter.
