I am Back: Brian Bosworth Accepts Appointment with Oklahoma Sooners

In a move that has both shocked and excited the college football world, former Oklahoma Sooners legend Brian Bosworth has officially accepted a new position with the program, marking his return to the university where he became a household name. Titled simply, *“I Am Back,”* the announcement speaks volumes about the passion and pride Bosworth still holds for the crimson and cream.

Bosworth, who rose to national fame in the 1980s as a hard-hitting linebacker under coach Barry Switzer, will now be stepping into a leadership and mentorship role within the Sooners’ football program. While exact details of the position have yet to be fully disclosed, sources close to the university confirm that Bosworth will be involved in player development, alumni relations, and potentially serve in an ambassadorial capacity on behalf of the program.

“I am back where I belong,” Bosworth said in a statement released by the university. “This university, this team, and this community helped shape me into who I am today. I’m grateful for the chance to give back and to support the next generation of Sooners in their journey.”

Known during his playing days as “The Boz,” Bosworth was both a dominant force on the field and a cultural icon off of it. His aggressive play, larger-than-life personality, and controversial moments made him one of college football’s most unforgettable figures. During his tenure at Oklahoma, he was a two-time Butkus Award winner, earning All-American honors and helping lead the Sooners to a national championship in 1985.

While his NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks was cut short due to injury, Bosworth has remained in the public eye through acting, broadcasting, and motivational speaking. Now, he brings his experience and passion full circle, back to Norman.

Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables praised the appointment, calling it a “powerful connection between the past and the future.”

“Brian Bosworth is an Oklahoma icon,” Venables said. “Having him back around the program is huge for our players. He understands what it means to wear this jersey, to play with intensity, and to carry the legacy of greatness. Our guys will benefit tremendously from his perspective.”

Reactions from former players, fans, and alumni have been overwhelmingly positive. Many took to social media to express their excitement at the news. One fan wrote, “This is what tradition looks like. Bosworth back in Norman just feels right.”

The university has hinted that more details about Bosworth’s role will be revealed during an upcoming home game, where he is expected to be introduced on the field in front of a packed Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Bosworth’s return signals more than just nostalgia—it represents a bridge between eras, as the Sooners look to embrace their storied past while building toward a new future in the SEC. With “The Boz” once again part of the team, Oklahoma football just added a little more edge—anda lot more swagger.
