BREAKING NEWS: Collingwood Magpies Shock Fans with Bold Decision to Swap Iconic Black and White Stripes for Neon Colours in Upcoming Season

In a move that has left the AFL world stunned, the Collingwood Magpies have announced they will be ditching their traditional black and white stripes in favour of a bold new look featuring neon green and pink for the upcoming season. The unexpected uniform change has triggered an avalanche of reactions from fans, commentators, and former players alike.

The announcement came early this morning via the club’s official channels, with a video unveiling the vibrant new kit set to be worn during select matches in the 2025 AFL season. The neon design features a fluorescent green base with bold pink stripes — a radical departure from the club’s iconic black and white, which has been synonymous with Collingwood since its founding in 1892.

Club president Jeff Browne defended the move during a press conference, calling the change “a step into the future” and part of a larger rebranding strategy aimed at “reconnecting with a new generation of fans.” According to Browne, the decision was made after months of internal discussions, fan surveys, and consultations with marketing experts.

“We understand the weight that comes with our colours — they’re more than just fabric. But this initiative is about evolution, not abandonment,” Browne said. “The black and white will always be our core identity, but introducing a bold, modern kit for certain matches is a way to shake things up and attract new energy.”

Despite the club’s rationale, the reaction from the Collingwood faithful has been overwhelmingly mixed. Social media platforms erupted within minutes of the announcement, with hashtags like #NotMyMagpies and #BringBackTheStripes trending nationwide. Long-time supporters expressed everything from confusion to outrage, accusing the club of sacrificing tradition for the sake of gimmickry.

“This is the worst decision the club has made in decades,” one fan tweeted. “The black and white means everything to us. Green and pink? Seriously?” Others took a more humorous approach, comparing the new colours to highlighters and bubblegum packaging.

However, not everyone is up in arms. Some younger supporters have welcomed the change, praising the club for being daring and attempting something outside the box. “I think it’s cool,” said 21-year-old member Jake Thomson. “It’s just for a few games, and it’ll definitely make us stand out.”

Former Collingwood great Nathan Buckley also weighed in on the issue during a radio appearance, saying while he was surprised by the move, he believes it won’t define the team’s on-field success. “It’s a shirt, not a game plan,” Buckley noted. “At the end of the day, fans want wins.”

The club has confirmed that the traditional black and white stripes will still be worn for all home games and marquee matches, with the neon green and pink kit being introduced as an alternate strip — likely for away fixtures or promotional rounds.
