Penn State Athletics | Penn State’s offense will be LOADED going

Penn State football appears primed for an explosive campaign, with expectations building around what many are calling the most well-rounded offensive unit the Nittany Lions have fielded in years. With an exciting blend of returning talent and promising newcomers, Penn State’s offense is shaping up to be absolutely *loaded* going into the new season.

Head coach James Franklin and his staff have quietly but effectively constructed an offensive roster brimming with playmakers, and anticipation is reaching a fever pitch in Happy Valley. The pieces seem to be falling perfectly into place—from a confident quarterback ready to lead, to a deep running back room, and a receiving corps that could finally give defenses nightmares.

At the center of this rising excitement is quarterback Drew Allar, who now has a full season of experience under his belt. After flashes of brilliance last year, Allar is looking sharper, more confident, and more in command of the offense during spring practices. Coaches and teammates have praised his poise and progression, with Franklin noting, “Drew has taken full ownership of the offense this offseason. His leadership, understanding of the playbook, and execution have been exactly what we hoped to see.”

Behind him, the running back duo of Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen returns as one of the most dangerous one-two punches in college football. Both backs rushed for over 700 yards last season and are expected to be even more productive this year with a more balanced offensive scheme. The offensive line, led by veterans like Olu Fashanu and Hunter Nourzad, is expected to provide both protection for Allar and running lanes for the backs.

But it’s the potential of the receiving group that has many buzzing. After inconsistent performances last season, wideouts like KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Harrison Wallace III are poised for breakout years, bolstered by transfers and talented freshmen pushing for reps. Penn State also added tight end Kyle Morlock from the transfer portal, giving the offense another versatile weapon.

Offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki, who joined the program from Kansas, brings a creative, uptempo approach that could unlock even more from this group. Known for his ability to adapt and scheme to his players’ strengths, Kotelnicki has already made an impression in spring camp. “The energy he brings, the vision he has—it’s exactly what this offense needed,” said one player during a recent media availability.

The Nittany Lions also benefit from continuity in the coaching staff and returning starters across key positions, something that often sets the stage for significant improvement from one year to the next.

With a favorable early-season schedule and high expectations, Penn State fans are hoping the offensive firepower will finally elevate the team to the next tier—competing not just for Big Ten dominance, but also for a legitimate shot at the College Football Playoff.
