Patrick Mahomes’ Message to Kansas City Chiefs GM Following Thrilling NFL Draft Selection

Patrick Mahomes has given his stamp of approval to Kansas City Chiefs’ general manager Brett Veach following the team’s Day 2 moves in the NFL Draft.

The Chiefs’ quarterback took to social media to express his excitement after a dynamic start to the draft for the team. Kansas City made a bold move by trading up to acquire the 28th pick and secure Xavier Worthy, the speedy wide receiver who set a new 40-yard dash record at the NFL Combine in March. They also added BYU offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia, prompting Mahomes to tweet his endorsement. The three-time Super Bowl winner took to Twitter, writing, “I love Veach man!”

Veach, known for his astute football acumen, boasts a solid background in the sport himself. He was a standout running back at Delaware, earning third-team All-Atlantic 10 honors in 2000. Beginning his management career with a coaching internship at the Philadelphia Eagles, Veach quickly ascended the ranks in the league’s executive offices.

By 2017, Veach had assumed the role of general manager for Kansas City, guiding the team into a dominant era in the NFL through strategic draft selections. Notable picks include star tight end Travis Kelce, drafted in the third round in 2013, and last year’s gem, running back Isiah Pacheco from Rutgers, selected in the seventh round.

Mahomes himself was a gamble in the 2017 Draft, with Veach reportedly advocating for the selection of the talented quarterback. This risk paid off handsomely, with Mahomes garnering six Pro Bowl appearances and two MVP awards.

Veach’s ability to maintain a strong supporting cast around Mahomes earned him the league’s Executive of the Year Award in 2020 and 2023. However, he faced criticism for trading star receiver Tyreek Hill to Miami two years ago. Despite early season struggles from Kadarious Toney, the Chiefs rebounded to secure a second consecutive Super Bowl title this past February, with Veach identifying Xavier Worthy as a promising successor to Hill.

Worthy, known for his exceptional speed, enjoyed a stellar college career, helping revitalize the Texas Longhorns’ offense. His record-breaking performance at the combine, coupled with his total athleticism score among receivers, has sparked excitement among Chiefs fans, eager to witness Mahomes’ arm paired with Worthy’s speed at Arrowhead Stadium in the upcoming season.
