The Raiders have decided to part ways with veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer.

The Las Vegas Raiders have decided to part ways with seasoned quarterback Brian Hoyer, who appeared in three games for the team during the previous season.

The official release of quarterback Brian Hoyer by the Las Vegas Raiders has been confirmed, as initially anticipated in reports over the past few weeks. Adam Schefter, an NFL insider, was the first to announce this development.

Hoyer joined the Raiders in April 2023, marking his association with the eighth NFL franchise throughout his 15-year career. During the previous season, he primarily served as the team’s third-choice quarterback, participating in only three games and starting in one. His lone start occurred in Week 7 against the Chicago Bears, resulting in a 30-12 loss for the Raiders. In that game, Hoyer threw for 129 yards but was intercepted twice.

For the entire 2023 season, Hoyer accumulated only 231 passing yards. Notably, his standout performance came when he stepped in for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo against his former team, the New England Patriots. In that game, he played a crucial role in a 21-17 victory, which temporarily elevated the Raiders to a .500 record.

The Raiders welcomed the former Patriot into their ranks under the leadership of Coach Josh McDaniels and General Manager Dave Ziegler, both familiar figures from his tenure in New England.

Hoyer’s NFL journey commenced as an undrafted free agent from Michigan State in 2009.

His early career unfolded over three seasons with the Patriots, followed by stints with the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, and San Francisco 49ers.

After a return to New England in the 2017 season, a brief tenure with the Indianapolis Colts in 2019, and another three seasons with the Patriots, Hoyer embarked on a one-year stint with Las Vegas.

Throughout his veteran career, Hoyer has amassed 10,899 passing yards and 53 touchdowns in 79 games, earning starts in 41 of them.

The upcoming NFL Draft is scheduled for April 25-27, 2024, in Detroit, Michigan, with the Las Vegas Raiders currently holding the No. 13 overall pick.
